Review:

This review is slightly different in so much it is about a ‘product’ and not an actual game, namely REALMS EDGE, a collection of map pieces from their Dungeon Craft Kickstarters.

Realms Edge is as it says, a collection of pieces (you can also get maps, see pics) and these pieces can be used to terrain out the play area for your RPG’s and skirmish games. As the box says, there are hundreds of different parts within the pack to enhance your gaming experience and bring your worlds to life on the table.

As you can see from the pictures, there is a LOT of terrain and even some creatures within this heavy pack of popular themes from their past Kickstarters, including Fey Forests, Spell Effects, Gothic Buildings, City Walls and many more.

The versatility of what you get is seemingly endless when you look at the combinations you can put together, be it all magical forest pieces, or one of the many rooms and buildings you can use in your games.

Everything is done in superb full colour, and every terrain piece is marked out in 25mm / 1” squares to allow movement to be made easier around each one, especially in games where movement tracking is key.

All of the pieces work with wet / dry erase marker pens so can be written or drawn on and then cleaned with tissues etc., ready for your next game(s).

Every room / piece is also double sided and this provides even more variance of use in a multitude of games, and extreme value for your money.

Whilst I would see these being used mostly in games like D&D, Pathfinder, RuneQuest etc., they could easily be used for tabletop miniatures games like SAGA, Frostgrave, 5 Parsecs From Home, Bolt Action, and you could quite easily use these alongside pieces of physical terrain when required.

Other items in the same line include BattleMaps for an Ocean, Hell, Turned Earth and a City, plus terrain packs / boxes for Hell & High Water, Castles and Keeps and Cursed Lands.

Combining one or more of these packs / maps will give you even more options when it comes to running RPG campaigns for not just fantasy settings but many different periods / genres and is going to be far cheaper than buying physical pieces of terrain, and will also be much easier to take to your gaming sessions and clubs than boxes and boxes of buildings and trees etc.

Each map is also double sided, and folds down into A4 size as a max.

In conclusion REALMS EDGE and all the other products in the line are an invaluable tool to any GM / DM, and are an excellent way to kick start a games club or similar in schools as all you need to do is cut out those pieces marked with dotted lines on their edges and start using them straight out of the box.

The prices for these are excellent too, bearing in mind the variety and amount of pieces you end up with once you have cut out the smaller ones from their sheet.
