If you knew me on any real level, you’d know that I’m a sucker for anything from the 1980’s and/or 1990’s. My daughter calls all the stuff I’m into “OLDIES”. As I write the review “All 90’s” is currently playing on my Amazon Music. Barbie Girl by Aqua just finished up and 3AM from Matchbox Twenty just started. The first couple of seasons of Stranger Things was something I geeked out on recently. I was ecstatic when my son got me a couple dvd’s disguised to look like they were actually VHS tapes. Luckily they weren’t because we got rid of our vhs player a while ago. One of the best trilogy’s out there in my opinion is
Lord of the Rings (nope, I’m not that kind of guy) Back to the Future which I first saw on, you guessed it, VHS tapes. Anytime I see anything on kickstarter or anywhere for that matter that takes on the form or disguise of vhs or cassette tapes I go all googly eyed. I’ve probably seen more, but the first one I saw and backed, or one that I can readily see on the shelf is that of Dated | Trivia Card Game. So when I saw 1985 Games Presents: Sharp Edge VHS Dice I had to have it. So when 1985 games sent me a couple dice packs from this Kickstarter campaign last year I was in HEAVEN and am now a dice collector.
The only somewhat printed rule I found on the box was the fact that these dice aren’t intended for those younger than 9 years old. Luckily I didn’t get them until my youngest child was already nine. Otherwise, the 🎲 👮♀️ probably would’ve frequented our home. But, now they can’t get us! Unless, I pick up dice that are only intended for those of an older age.
Because of how long it took me to get from the packaging to the review, I don’t recall if the pack was shrink-wrapped or not. So, my setup may be easier than yours.
Set-up with these dice is easy enough.
First find out what kind of dice the game requires be rolled. For example, you’re not going to want to use a D6 for Brad’s upcoming game Cavern because it calls for a D20. Then all that needs to be done is simply to pull the Styrofoam * (I think that’s what kind of material it is, but I could very well be wrong, and the 🎲 👮♀️ could very well end up locking me up over this 🤬) out of the miniature VHS box and then extract the dice from the needed orifice. May I suggest, holding the styrofoam* up vertically with both hands and then pressing your dominant thumb against the needed dice until it comes out of the hole it had been placed in. (Note: Don’t do this if you’ve sprained your thumb from playing basketball. Trust me I speak from experience)
Finally, Either roll or place the dice into your dice tower. If you’re one of my children, I’d emphasize rolling and not just dropping the dice, as I see this as cheating… 🤫, don’t tell the 🎲 👮♀️.
The Lifetime Warranty. (Since I don’t want to spoil the whole show for you, you’re just going to have to pick up your own copy of VHS Dice: Plasmic Punch to see what I mean about this, don’t worry you won’t be disappointed like you were when you went to watch your family vacation and instead were greeted by Pee-Wee Pee-wee’s Big Adventure PG 1985 ‧ Comedy/Adventure ‧ 1h 30m or Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird G 1985 ‧ Comedy/Musical ‧ 1h 29m
