Do you like Holiday themed games? Outside of 12 Days, I admittedly haven’t played many. So during this Holiday season, my wife and I decided to moderately re-theme one of our favorite games. On our last play of Raiders of the North Sea, we pretended that are otherwise pillaging meeple vikings were instead elves picking up presents from the different workshops in the North Pole. Instead of Valkyries that caused death, they were toys that didn’t pass quality control and someone from our pickup team had to leave the group and take them back to the workshop for repair. This re-themeing required nothing more than our imaginations and filled a temporary need for a Holiday-themed game.
Speaking of Holidays, things are still slowing down on Kickstarter, but our review staff still had five different picks this week.
Receiving the most votes was Terminus Breach. Terminus Breach is a tower defense game for 1-4 players. With over 650 components, you will have a lot of components. Our own Nicholas Leeman got a sneak peek at this game and he said some things about it — things that you can read on everythingboardgames.com. Terminus Breach is currently 88% funded with 6 days to go.
Next pick this week is Roll Through the Ages: The Iron Age by Eagle-Gryphon Games. The sequel to Roll Through the Ages (RTTA), RTTA: The Iron Age is a fast-paced dice game where players must chooses between actions such as increasing their areas, building armies, or gaining trade ships. As an added bonus, every back of RTTA: The Iron Age will received a free copy of Dead Man’s Chest. For 1-4 players, RTTA: The Iron Age is currently 191% funded with 19 days to go.
Also receiving multiple votes this week was my (Nick S) pick of the week — Stonehenge and the Sun (SatS). An abstract dexterity game for 2-4 players, SatS has players reconstructing Stonehenge and then swinging a metal ball representing the sun from one side of the base to the other. If the sun knocks down the construction, the player takes a penalty. Unique theme with elaborate set-up that may or may not actually meet the definition of a game and will require that I beg my euro-loving wife to play? I’m in. Stonehenge and the Sun is currently 22% funded with 35 days to go.
Other games (and game related items) receiving votes this week are Fences: A Tile Laying Game (49% funded with 32 days to go) and Dized, the board game companion app that helps you skip the rule book (41% funded with 20 days to go).
We hope that everyone is enjoying the Holiday season and getting plenty of game time with family and friends.
